A free Jiujitsu and grappling fitness training club for Thornaby youngsters has been handed an £800 donation to help buy new mats.

Submit 2 Success, which has worked with more than 1,000 children and young people since it began six years ago, has been given the support of Persimmon Homes Teesside through its Community Champions scheme.

Founder Ralph Jordinson welcomed the cash and said: “Submit 2 Success runs free sessions in Jiujitsu and grappling fitness training in one of the most deprived postcode wards in the region. We also run an anti-bullying project and are members of the anti-bullying alliance.

“We started in 2012, and since then we have worked with more than 1,000 youngsters and have created both national and world champions.

“Due to demand we are having to expand our matted area to include overflow and an additional training area, and also to replace our existing mats that have become damaged over the last six years.

“This generous donation will top up other funding and allow us to provide the matting we need and to continue supporting and inspiring the children and young people who are part of our group.”

Joan Peart, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Teesside, said: “Submit 2 Success is providing an excellent example to its members aged from just six to 19. It is a truly community based initiative and is giving a great deal back by supporting these young people.

“It is a pleasure to be able to support the work the group is doing.”

She added: “We always receive so many applications for our Community Champions initiative. I really encourage any charities and groups looking for funding to apply to the scheme for their chance to receive up to £1,000 match-funding for their own cause.”
